The School Site Council (SSC) is a group of teachers, parents, and student leaders that works with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. The members of the SSC are generally elected by their peers, and serve for two years.  For example, parents elect the parent representatives and teachers elect teachers.

The exact duties of SSC vary from school to school, but site councils generally either make decisions or advise the principal on the school budget and the academic or school improvement plan. Our SSC at Diamond Ranch reviews and approves Diamond Ranch's Single Site Plan (SPSA) and the school improvement program activities. In addition to academic planning, the SSC also involved in making decisions about parent engagement, safety and discipline.

School site council members don't just represent their own interests. They have an obligation to make decisions that will best serve the entire school community. In fact, as a decision making body, our SSC is heavily involved with finding ways to close gaps in achievement between groups of students.
